12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-“Sorry” Finished

16 Sorry

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s by Craig L Haupt #4

Title-“Sorry”  Fourth sequenced post.

Posted is the “Sorry” finished painting. Besides wrestling with color choices, artists are always addressing the ’balance’ of a work.  There are books, books, and more books that explain formula balance but sometimes artists, pending on their ’style’ must respond to their own internal sense of balance in an artwork.  Up to the last minute the window in the upper left corner was always a rectangle. While all the receding panels/borders were square/rectangle I decided to add an arch to the window. This arch adds another ’sphere’ shape that softens all the right angles in that corner and complements the ’spheres’ of the subjects. Not an earth shattering decision but I yield to those, sometimes pesky, artistic internal voices.

I will not post any artwork Monday, July 4th due to our national holiday observance.

The project will be posted in the following sequence, 1st Monday-the sketch/doodle or related source from whence the painting has originated.

The second Monday-the 12”x12” pencil worksheet showing the intended painting.

The third Monday-a progress post of the painting.

The fourth Monday-the finished painting.

Then repeat.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-“Sorry” Progress Painting

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s by Craig L Haupt #4

Title-“Sorry”  Third sequenced post.

Posted is the “Sorry” painting in progress. The difficulty I am facing with this painting is the receding panels/borders. Shown is my third attempt to get a color I am satisfied with and for a third time, I am not satisfied. After this painting was photographed for this ‘Progress’ Post, I applied a fourth built-up and finally found colors for all three panels that I could accept. There will still be additional glazing layers to finalize the panels and the rest of the painting for next weeks “Finished Painting” Post.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-“Sorry” Worksheet

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s by Craig L Haupt #3

Title-“Sorry”  Second sequenced post.

Posted is the 12” x 12” pencil Worksheet to be used for the ‘Sorry” painting.

The ‘doodle’ that Karen picked, took many variations and rough drafts before I found a design that worked, while still maintaining the integrity of the original ‘doodle’. To be noted, this was the challenge of allowing others to select a ‘doodle’ from my sketchbooks and so far, from the friends that have selected, the development process has certainly been interesting.

Ready for the transfer to canvas, color choices and additional modifications.

The project will be posted in the following sequence, 1st Monday-the sketch/doodle or related source from whence the painting has originated.

The second Monday-the 12”x12” pencil ‘Worksheet’ showing the intended painting.

The third Monday-a ‘Progress’ post of the painting.

The fourth Monday-the ‘Finished’ painting.

Then repeat.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-“Sorry”-The Doodle

13 Sorry-Doodle

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s by Craig L Haupt #4

Title-“Sorry”  First sequenced post.

Posted is ‘The Doodle’, from Sketch Book One, December 2006. This selection is from the +12 portion of the project-Doodles selected by friends. This one was selected by Karen. She selected the ‘doodle’ number One for the three spheres and the shapes surrounding the top area of the spheres. Yet Karen also liked the long downward ‘leg’ shapes in the circled ‘Doodle’ number Two. I decided to incorporate both into the final painting.

How I resolved combining the two is on next Monday’s ‘Worksheet’ post.

A NOTE: The 12 people I selected for the +12 portion of this project were for several reasons, two are my sons, some, very close friends I have known for years, some, artists I have connected with over the years. Other variables such as time and place played a part with people I knew. There were only 12 selections I could make and there were many people I would like to have included in this project and my hope is that you don’t feel slighted in any way.
