12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-“The Wedding”, Finished

8 The Wedding

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s by Craig L Haupt

Title-“The Wedding”  Fourth sequenced post.

Posted is “The Wedding” completed painting.

In the last post, I mentioned the several changes to the size of the tiles in the background before I could begin applying colors to the said tiles. Given the painting aspect, the tiles again proved to generate a great deal of attention.

Trying to achieve a specific color combination I had watercolored on a worksheet portion of the tiles 20 years ago, it was difficult to match the soft tones of the watercolors with the colors generated by the oils. After several attempts and a few suggestions from an Art friend, Karen, I finally was able to manage, albeit a stronger appearance, the same flavor/integrity of my earlier watercolor worksheets.

The project will be posted in the following sequence, 1st Monday-the sketch/doodle or related source from whence the painting has originated.

The second Monday-the 12”x12” pencil worksheet showing the intended painting.

The third Monday-a progress post of the painting.

The fourth Monday-the finished painting.

Then repeat.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-“The Wedding” Progress Painting

7 The Wedding

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s by Craig L Haupt

Title-“The Wedding”  Third sequenced post.

Posted is “The Wedding” painting in progress. This painting relies heavily on my past drafting background. As the painting is laid out and initial colors applied there is also a constant reworking on the pencil worksheet to reconfigure placement and size proportions while transferring the image to the painting.  The size of the wall tiles alone were erased and resized four times (sometimes by just a 32nd of an inch). In a made-up world it is still important to strike a balance within the fantasy with a logical sense of reality.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-“The Wedding”, Worksheet

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s by Craig L Haupt

Title-“The Wedding”  Second sequenced post.

Posted is the 12” x 12” pencil worksheet to be used for the “The Wedding” painting. The previous worksheet attempts, over the years prior to this project, were all consistently toying with a horizontal rectangle layout. To convert the design to a 12” x 12” square format was a little bit of a challenge but I am fairly pleased with the adjustments. The next step is to transfer the design to a gesso prepped board.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-“The Wedding”, the ‘doodle’

DSC_0027

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s by Craig L Haupt

Title-“The Wedding”  First sequenced post.

Posted is ‘The Doodle’-from 25 years ago on loose sheets of paper. The images to be used for “The Wedding” painting are circled in Red. Circled with the ‘number 1’ is the first ‘doodle’ and then weeks later I reworked the ‘doodle’ (number 2 and 3) on another sheet of paper.

I have, over the past 25 years, tried several worksheets on several occasions to find a satisfactory final design, always close but never what I really wanted. For this project, I went back to these initial ‘doodles’ and the trial & error sketches/worksheets for another attempt.
