“The House That Jack Built”

Week Seven-Second Corner with Suggestions

Herein is the second corner of the Pen & Ink worksheet with suggestions from viewers to “The House That Jack Built” project. This is a camera shot rather than a digital scan so coloring is different from the previous “2nd corner” post.

Thanks to all that have participated so far.

As I mentioned in the first post (June 16) of this project, not all suggestions can be incorporated into the image. However some suggestions I do not include may still find their way into another corner of the house.

An example of this-Ivy was suggested for the Second Corner and I have decided to add this to the Fourth Corner area. A cat was suggested in the First Corner posting, I have used it in the Second Corner “framed painting with the rocking chair”.

As I continue to lay out the painting, some shifting, additions, and alterations of suggestions can still take place up to the final strokes of the brush.

Next week I will post the Third Corner with areas to be considered and look forward to additional suggestions.

The continuing posting schedule for the project is, as laid out:

Today,  Monday, July 28; Second Corner with suggested items.

Monday, August 4; Post the Third Corner for suggestions of that area

Continue the sequence, and end the project with the posting of the completed painting.

“The House That Jack Built”-Week Six

Four Watching

“The House That Jack Built”

Week Six-Intermission

A “Thank You” to all those that submitted suggestions of items to be included in the “Second corner” of “The House That Jack Built”.

As I have listed in the schedule, I am posting a past Art image, as an Intermission (I have chocolate chips cookies with a cold glass of milk sitting nearby) while I am selecting items to be used and applying them to the Second Corner Pen & Ink drawing.

The above Oil Painting is entitled “Four Watching”

As I started to learn how to work with Oil paints a few years ago, I contemplated over a few of my earlier Watercolor and Color Pencil drawings and how they would lend themselves as an Oil painting. This 2012 Oil painting is the reworking of a Color pencil drawing I completed in 2006.

Never did figure out what they were watching at the time, but in lieu of this project, they decided to take a moment and watch the ongoing construction of the house. Roy, the gentleman to the left, is contemplating his suggestion for the Third corner.

The continuing posting schedule for the project is, as laid out:

Today,  Monday, July 21; An intermission, (post a past art image).

Monday, July 28; Repost the Second corner with added items.

Monday, August 4; Post the Third corner for suggestions of that area.

Continue the sequence, and end the project with the posting of the completed painting.

“The House That Jack Built”-Week Five

The House That Jack Built Second corner

“The House That Jack Built”

Second Corner-Pen & Ink Image

The above Pen & Ink worksheet is the second of the four corners open for suggestions of items to be included in the final painting. Anyone new to the “The House That Jack Built” please scroll back to Monday’s June 16 Post for a description of this current project.

The guidelines for the “House That Jack Built” project:

If you please, just one suggestion per person for each corner, when posted.

At this Second corner, requesting a suggestion of:

Something you notice on Exterior walls of a house

or

Something you see on the walls/ceiling and though-out a Living room/Study.

At this juncture, I ask that you notice how items were applied to the first corner and consider the types of items you suggest that might lend themselves to the framework layout.

An example: There are no floors, so items that rest on a floor i.e. couch, chairs, etc will not work.

On the flip side,

At the first corner posting, the suggested “Komodo Dragon” was not common to the Porch/Foyer area but I used it in the design of the Kimono hanging on the coat rack. As an artist, I will consider your suggestion and how I might be able to include it into “The House That Jack Built”.

There are only so many things/items that can be selected for inclusion to create an overall balanced final composition, and suggestions will come from different sources (Facebook, WordPress Blog, Google Blog, LinkedIn, etc.), so take no offense if yours is not chosen.

There is no compensation for suggestions used, but I will keep tab of the names offering suggestions directly to my post or to the “Shared” posts. At the end of this project I will “pull a name out of the hat” and send that person a signed/numbered, first edition print of the final painting.

The posting schedule for the project is, as laid out:

Today, July 14; Post the second corner for suggestions of that area

July 21; Intermission. Post a past art image.

July 28; Post the second corner with applied items from suggestions.

Continue the sequence, and end the project with the posting of the completed painting.

“The House That Jack Built”-Week Four

The House That Jack Built First corner additions

“The House That Jack Built”

Week Four-First Corner with Suggestions

Herein is the first corner of the Pen & Ink worksheet with suggestions from viewers to “The House That Jack Built” project. This is a camera shot rather than a digital scan so coloring is different from the previous “1st corner” post.

Thanks to all that have participated so far.

As I mentioned in the first post (June 16) of this project, not all suggestions could be incorporated into the image. Some suggestions I did not include could still find their way into another corner of the house.

An example of this-Of animals/reptile suggestions (which, I admit, I am apprehensive because drawing/painting animals/reptiles are not my strong suit), I received a possum, a raven, a cat, and a Komodo dragon. Of those, the cat was not used, but is still retained on the list for consideration at one of the other corners.

I intend this project to result into a viable painting and as I add items, the artist part of me must also take into consideration-color, appearance of depth, balance, and overall composition. As I start to lay out the painting, the continuance of shifting, additions, and alterations of suggestions can still take place up to the final strokes of the brush, while I still work to maintain the integrity of the drawing worksheet and the project in general.

Next week I will post the second corner with areas to be considered and look forward to additional suggestions.

The continuing posting schedule for the project is, as laid out:

Today,  Monday, July 7; First corner with suggested items.

Monday, July 14; Post the second corner for suggestions of that area

Continue the sequence, and end the project with the posting of the completed painting.
