12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-‘Cross Talk’, The Finished Painting

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #15 by Craig L Haupt

Third sequenced post, the ‘Finished Painting’.

One of the positive aspects of engaging in a project such as this, is experimenting with choices of colors. In particular, the colors used in the ’box’ areas. These soft pastel colors are an extension from a painting in the 8 x 10 ’Eleven Series’ I completed a few months ago. Pending on the subject matter, I expect this ’box’ and/or color choice will periodically find it’s way into other future paintings.

Next Monday, the start of the next Painting in the ‘12 + 12 Project’.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-‘Cross Talk’, The Worksheet

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #15 by Craig L Haupt

Title-’Cross Talk’

Second sequenced post, ‘The Worksheet’.

If you were to see this worksheet close up, you would see numerous eraser marks from a first attempt at this ’to be finished painting design’. Whereas the subjects from the ’Doodle’ were fine, the numerous embellishments added didn’t seem to work. So I erased 90% of the pencil work around the main subjects and started over. I’m much happier with this final worksheet version.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-‘Cross Talk’, The Doodle

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #15 by Craig L Haupt

Title-’Cross Talk’

First sequenced post, ‘The Doodle’.

From the + 12 portion of this project, this ‘Doodle’ was selected by good friend and fellow artist Steve. Steve selected the circled in red, doodle no. 1. While pondering the possibilities, I noticed another doodle to the right. I Choose two parts, circled no. 2 and 3, that peaked my interest for consideration into the final design.

Next Monday, the ’Worksheet’.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-‘Close Encounter’, The Finished Painting

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #14 by Craig L Haupt

Title-’Close Encounter’

Third sequenced post, the ‘Finished Painting’.

Pending the paintings narrative, time of day can play a part in how colors are chosen. In this case ‘dusk’. With that in mind I worked to keep the colors subdued to try match this time of day as best I could.

An item on the worksheet, the flower in the flower pot, somehow didn’t make it into the painting. There is a chance I might consider going back to the painting and putting one in, but at the same time I’m not too bothered with the lack of one. I could always reason that a flower is what is being sought.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-‘Close Encounters’, The Worksheet

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #14 by Craig L Haupt

Title-’Close Encounter’

Second sequenced post, ‘The Worksheet’.

From the selection of the ‘Doodle’ to creating a final design, is determined by how much or how little a narrative is employed. In this case I saw more of a narrative emerge from the different types of shapes, particularly the four, layered cakelike, receding shapes. Revisiting the ‘Doodle’ posting will give viewers a reference of the transition.

Next Monday, the ’Finished Painting’.

For those new to the project, a synopsis of this 24 painting project is in the first 12 + 12 posting on March 7, 2016 Post ‘Boots’, the ‘Doodle’.

Title-’Close Encounter’

First sequenced post, ‘The Doodle’.

For the start of the new year, this 12 + 12 entry is a Doodle selected by yours truly. This is another Doodle, from September 2016, that had caught me eye on several occasions but couldn’t figure out how to develop it until a few months ago.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-“Different Perspectives”, The Finished Painting

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #13 by Craig L Haupt

Title-’Different Perspectives’

Third sequenced post, the ‘Finished Painting’.

Feeding off directions initiated by the ‘Eleven Series’ project and using sparse simple doodles chosen by Beth and Dale over some of their more complex choices allowed me to alter my line, balance and color choices. This painting becomes an important stepping stone for the remaining eleven paintings in this project.

Due to the approaching Holiday season and the days they fall on, I will return to the 12 + 12 postings on Monday, January 8th.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-“Different Perspectives”, The Worksheet

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #13 by Craig L Haupt

Title-’Different Perspectives’

Second sequenced post, ‘The Worksheet’.

Like a puzzle, the worksheet shows how I have arranged and tweaked the ‘Doodles’ selected for this painting. Also begins the task of figuring out colors to be used. There are initial choices and others will be worked out as the painting takes form.

Next Monday, the ’Finished Painting’.

The only change I have made to the second half postings is that I will forgo the ‘painting in progress’ postings. The posting sequence will be the ‘Doodle’, ‘Worksheet’, and ‘Finished Painting’ and then repeat.

For those new to the project, a synopsis of this project is in the first 12 + 12 posting on March 7, 2016 Post ‘Boots’, the ‘Doodle’.

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #13 by Craig L Haupt

Title-’Different Perspectives’

First sequenced post, ‘The Doodle’.

So here we go again, the second half of this project. This selection is from the +12 portion of the project-Doodles selected by friends. This one was selected by two individuals rather than one person. Beth and Dale. Working with their choices, I found four that, rather than as a main subject, appeared to support a doodle I had long considered for a finished painting but could never find the proper environment to surround it with. Circles numbered 1,2, & 3 were picked by Dale (1 & 2 have similarities). Number 4 was selected by Beth. Number 5 is the doodle from 2006 that I had long considered.

Next Monday, the ’Worksheet’.

The only change I have made to the second half postings is that I will forgo the ‘painting in progress’ postings. The posting sequence will be the ‘Doodle’, ‘Worksheet’, and ‘Finished Painting’ and then repeat.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s – “The Patio” Finished Painting

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #12 by Craig L Haupt

Title-“The Patio”  Fourth sequenced post.

Posted is “The Patio” Finished painting.

Aside from finalizing various shapes and backgrounds with additional coats of paint, glazing, and shading to create form, the ‘Butterflies’ have a small history.

Back in 1995 I did a small 5” x 7” watercolor drawing using these multicolored butterflies in a design. Over the past 20 years I have tried, on a few occasions, to convert these ‘Butterflies’ into a painting using the same layout and design. I never did succeed.

While laying out the worksheet for this painting there were quiet whispers from some faraway place in my head that suggested this was a painting that these Butterflies could find a home. While not the same layout I had first worked with all those years ago, I’m satisfied with their place in this painting.

This marks the completion of 12 of the intended 24 paintings, a halfway point. I will be taking a break from the posting process. An upcoming out-of-town weekend reunion, Taxes, paperwork, Doctor and vehicle checkups, etc., all seeking attention and converging at the same time. Thanks for all your wonderful support for this portion of the 12 + 12 project. See you in a bit.
