12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-‘Pondering’, The Worksheet #18

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #17

Title-’Pondering’

Second sequenced post, ‘The Worksheet’.

As far as I know, I have never thought of a title first and then tried to draw an image to it. Creating the title somehow floats in between the worksheet and the painting phase. For this image, the title was determined by one small leaf.

With the three ‘creatures’ looking at the three ‘flowers’, I opted for trying to determine if there was a distinct emotional narrative between one of the ’flowers’ and its counter part ‘creature’ that could prompt a title. I choose the closest ’flower’ and rested its chin on one of the leaves. Hence ‘Pondering’.

Even though the painting will follow the layout of this worksheet fairly strictly, there is one small change to the painting, and that is to that one particular leaf.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-‘Bing Cherry’, The Worksheet

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #17

Title-’Bing Cherry’

Second sequenced post, ‘The Worksheet’.

When selecting the ‘Doodle’ for this painting and the one for the previous painting #16, they were not selected for any initial similarities. It was only when developing the worksheets that some similar design connections became evident. As noted in the Posts for painting #16, a landscape scene worked its way into both worksheets. There are two other incidents of connection. The downward viewing position of the ‘face’ is one and second, the tapering shape of ‘upper arm/shoulder’ and those corresponding shapes directly to the left.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-‘Bing Cherry’, The Doodle

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #17

Title-’Bing Cherry’

First sequenced post, ‘The Doodle’.

The ‘Doodle’ shown above for Painting #17 was selected and the ‘Worksheet’ completed during a two day stretch this past September, along with the previous #16 Design. As mentioned, in those previous posts, there are some design connections which are best described with next Mondays ‘Worksheet’ post.

“12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-‘Tidying Up’, The Worksheet”

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #16

Title-’Tidying Up’

Second sequenced post, ‘The Worksheet’.

As I mentioned in the last Post (the doodle), this painting, #16, and the next painting, #17, have connections besides both being worked on at the same time. Towards the center, left side is an open space that connects to the ‘creature’. In this space I toyed with the inclusion of a landscape scene. On the next design, for #17, I found that there was an area that might warrant a similar embellishment.

Next Monday, the ‘Finished Painting’.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-‘Tidying Up’, The Doodle

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #16

Title-’Tidying Up’

First sequenced post, ‘The Doodle’.

The next two paintings in this project have a shared history. Both ‘Doodles’ (for paintings #16 and #17) I chose and then finalized both worksheets all within a two day span. Their connections also expand into some of the elements of their final design.

More on their other connections with next Mondays ‘Worksheet’ Post.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-‘Cross Talk’, The Worksheet

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #15 by Craig L Haupt

Title-’Cross Talk’

Second sequenced post, ‘The Worksheet’.

If you were to see this worksheet close up, you would see numerous eraser marks from a first attempt at this ’to be finished painting design’. Whereas the subjects from the ’Doodle’ were fine, the numerous embellishments added didn’t seem to work. So I erased 90% of the pencil work around the main subjects and started over. I’m much happier with this final worksheet version.

Next Monday, the ’Finished Painting’.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-‘Close Encounter’, The Finished Painting

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #14 by Craig L Haupt

Title-’Close Encounter’

Third sequenced post, the ‘Finished Painting’.

Pending the paintings narrative, time of day can play a part in how colors are chosen. In this case ‘dusk’. With that in mind I worked to keep the colors subdued to try match this time of day as best I could.

An item on the worksheet, the flower in the flower pot, somehow didn’t make it into the painting. There is a chance I might consider going back to the painting and putting one in, but at the same time I’m not too bothered with the lack of one. I could always reason that a flower is what is being sought.

Next Monday, the start of the next Painting in the ‘12 + 12 Project’.

From the selection of the ‘Doodle’ to creating a final design, is determined by how much or how little a narrative is employed. In this case I saw more of a narrative emerge from the different types of shapes, particularly the four, layered cakelike, receding shapes. Revisiting the ‘Doodle’ posting will give viewers a reference of the transition.

Next Monday, the ’Finished Painting’.

For those new to the project, a synopsis of this 24 painting project is in the first 12 + 12 posting on March 7, 2016 Post ‘Boots’, the ‘Doodle’.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-“Different Perspectives”, The Worksheet

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #13 by Craig L Haupt

Title-’Different Perspectives’

Second sequenced post, ‘The Worksheet’.

Like a puzzle, the worksheet shows how I have arranged and tweaked the ‘Doodles’ selected for this painting. Also begins the task of figuring out colors to be used. There are initial choices and others will be worked out as the painting takes form.

Next Monday, the ’Finished Painting’.

The only change I have made to the second half postings is that I will forgo the ‘painting in progress’ postings. The posting sequence will be the ‘Doodle’, ‘Worksheet’, and ‘Finished Painting’ and then repeat.

For those new to the project, a synopsis of this project is in the first 12 + 12 posting on March 7, 2016 Post ‘Boots’, the ‘Doodle’.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s- “The Patio” Progress Painting

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s  #12 by Craig L Haupt

Title-“The Patio”  Third sequenced post.

Posted is “The Patio” progress painting.

There was a time, very early in the worksheet, when the ‘face’ part of the patio was being considered as ‘stone’. I ended up switching it to ‘brick’ and using the ‘stone’ as a lower section to the patio which represents the ‘neck’ and ‘body’.

The ‘Butterflies’, moved quite a bit in the worksheet, are still being moved around in this progress posting. Sometimes us artists can be a little picky about placement.

The table width has proved to be a concern (I thought is was too wide). Now that I can better see it in it’s painted format, I am leaning towards removing a board from each side before I add the chairs.

Next week, the finished product.

The project will be posted in the following sequence, 1st Monday-the sketch/doodle or related source from whence the painting has originated.

The second Monday-the 12”x12” pencil ‘Worksheet’ showing the intended painting.

The third Monday-a ‘Progress’ post of the painting.

The fourth Monday-the ‘Finished’ painting.

Then repeat.
