Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s #10 by Craig L Haupt

Title-“Back to Back” Third sequenced post.

Posted is the 12” x 12” Progress painting for the ‘Back to Back” painting.

As I begin the underpainting, an area I am having an issue with is the color of my ‘sky’ and a possible background. Do I add some type of additional information beyond the fence. A hedge or tree line perhaps and is this background in focus or defused.

The other area of concern is added shadows and object placement to try and enhance the notion that these two individuals are sitting back to back rather than against the tree.

Solutions have been considered and the results will be shown on next Monday’s Final Painting Post.
The project will be posted in the following sequence, 1st Monday-the sketch/doodle or related source from whence the painting has originated.
The second Monday-the 12”x12” pencil worksheet showing the intended painting.
The third Monday-a progress post of the painting.
The fourth Monday-the finished painting.
Then repeat.

  1. I really like your color choices for the tree bark. You were very brave to choose those colors and then find leaf colors that work with them !
As always, I look forward to seeing your finished painting.

  2. Thanks Sherry, I think my color choices for the bark of the tree seemed to be a method of keep trying to tweak each next painting in this project just a little differently if I can. If I can feel some type of growth in technique/application I will be satisfied.
