12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-“The Wedding”, the ‘doodle’

Title-“The Wedding”  First sequenced post.

 

Posted is ‘The Doodle’-from 25 years ago on loose sheets of paper. The images to be used for “The Wedding” painting are circled in Red. Circled with the ‘number 1’ is the first ‘doodle’ and then weeks later I reworked the ‘doodle’ (number 2 and 3) on another sheet of paper.

I have, over the past 25 years, tried several worksheets on several occasions to find a satisfactory final design, always close but never what I really wanted. For this project, I went back to these initial ‘doodles’ and the trial & error sketches/worksheets for another attempt.

 

The project will be posted in the following sequence, 1st Monday-the sketch/doodle or related source from whence the painting has originated.

The second Monday-the 12”x12” pencil worksheet showing the intended painting.

The third Monday-a progress post of the painting.

The fourth Monday-the finished painting.

Then repeat.

4 Boots

Title-“Boots”, Fourth sequenced post

Posted is the 12” x 12” completed “Boots” painting.

 

As with most artists there is always that moment when we are faced with the dilemma ‘is this finished’. Can I add something else, heighten or mute a color just a tad, should I have moved that one little object just an 1/8th of an inch to the left or right, etc. and these questions persist with each painting undertaken. Yet there comes a point when a decision has to be made and without further ado, this painting is now finished!

Next Monday the posting sequence begins again with the 2nd subject of the 12 + 12…. Project.

3 Boots Progress

Title-“Boots”, Third sequenced post

Posted is the 12” x 12” progress of the “Boots” painting.

 

The next step after the Worksheet, is creating the painting. At this stage, besides the transfer of the subject from the worksheet to canvas, further adjustments/tweaks are made as paints are applied.

2 Boots Worksheet

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s

Title-“Boots”, second sequenced post

Posted is the 12” x 12” pencil worksheet to be used for the “Boots” painting.

 

As each of the 24 subjects are selected, the next step is creating a full size 12” x 12” worksheet. As with all my paintings I try to keep the integrity of the initial ’Doodle’ as I develop the finished project.

Of the several worksheets in progress, there are a few that have some color added. This is one of the few.

This image, “Boots” is one of the first ‘12’ (doodles etc.) that were of my selections. Please see/scroll back to last weeks post to see a synopsis of the 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s project and the initial ‘doodle’.
