Title-’Different Perspectives’

First sequenced post, ‘The Doodle’.

So here we go again, the second half of this project. This selection is from the +12 portion of the project-Doodles selected by friends. This one was selected by two individuals rather than one person. Beth and Dale. Working with their choices, I found four that, rather than as a main subject, appeared to support a doodle I had long considered for a finished painting but could never find the proper environment to surround it with. Circles numbered 1,2, & 3 were picked by Dale (1 & 2 have similarities). Number 4 was selected by Beth. Number 5 is the doodle from 2006 that I had long considered.

Next Monday, the ’Worksheet’.

The only change I have made to the second half postings is that I will forgo the ‘painting in progress’ postings. The posting sequence will be the ‘Doodle’, ‘Worksheet’, and ‘Finished Painting’ and then repeat.

The nice thing about this series of eleven small paintings was trying some different applications of color and shapes. Even though brighter and airier than the others, I rather enjoyed this one.

This painting is from a September, 2012 ‘Doodle’ that I had looked at numerous times over the years, yet could not find a way to bring it to a finished solution. This current project of small paintings gave me the opportunity to find that ‘Doodle’ a home.

As I mentioned in Post #3 of the Eleven Series, there are two paintings that are reworks of earlier Pen & Ink drawings. Post #3-“Bob & Bob” was one, this is the second one. The original ’Kiss’, a 5” x 7”, was done in 1997 with pen & ink/watercolor with white background.

As with the previous post of ‘Red Sphere’ this painting is less about narrative and more about color. In particular, the transition of color, starting with the light blue at the ‘house’ and spiraling its way inward to the ‘faces’.

From a very simple ‘doodle’ in my sketchbook I choose to maintain that simplicity in the line work and rely more on color to strengthen the final image.

A touch more abstract then I am used to doing and also void of any narrative.

The “Eleven” Series-#3

The “Eleven” Series

#3-“Bob & Bob”-Oil on Canvas, 8” x 10” Craig L Haupt

Of the eleven paintings in this series, there are two that are reworks of earlier Pen & Ink drawings. This is one.  On the original Bob & Bob drawing there was a design element on the figure to the right whose clarity as an eye, was not as strong as it could have been. This oil painting series afforded me a chance to alter that design ‘flaw’ with a different medium.

Even with the change I was able to keep the general flavor afforded the Pen & Ink/Watercolor/Color pencil drawing, yet have an oil painting that was independent of the original.
