Over the next three weeks, I have a full art schedule:

Group Exhibit at HIVE artspace, Opening reception, May 1st in York, PA.

“Whimsy on Paper” solo art exhibition. Opening night, May 9th at Laughing Pint Tavern, Baltimore, MD.

‘Art Outside’ Festival, at the Druid Hill Park Reservoir, Baltimore, MD, Sunday May 17th.

This week’s post highlights one of three images, titled “Caterpillar”, I will have displayed at HIVE artspace in York, PA.

Next Monday, I will post another image from the “Whimsy on Paper” exhibit.

For several years, way back in the 80’s, a recurring doodle were these faces. Of all the attempts to work these faces into a finished drawing, they were more at home in a “Thumbnail Sketch”.

I have developed several ‘doodles’ from the sketchbook into very simple line-work drawings but this pen & ink ‘doodle’ (“The Gift”) worked best in a “Thumbnail Sketch” format.

These two small faces found their home as a “Thumbnail Sketch”. It wasn’t until I worked them into the thumbnail format that I decided on the ‘watching the movie’ narrative.

Number Five

There have been a couple of subjects whereas I had a finished drawing and years afterward converted the main subject to a “Thumbnail Sketch” format. The ‘stone man’ is one of those subjects.

A reminder, the ‘Box’ with the “Thumbnail Sketches” are only 2 1/4” (56mm) square.
