Creating ‘The Journey to Ukazoo’ Book project

‘The Journey to Ukazoo’ Book project:

After the solo exhibit in 2014, the subject of putting this project into book form arose. Other projects took precedence but it was always my intent that if I ever opted to put this Ukazoo project in book form I wanted to add additional artwork in the form of a border.

Shown are 2 of 74 border artworks that will grace the bottom of each of the 37 stories and companion artworks. 2.75 x 8 inches each

To the book project, the video & music are done and uploaded to the Kickstarter worksheet. After a few tweaks to the “Rewards” worksheet section I submitted this project to Kickstarter for approval.

It has been approved and I will press the “Launch” Monday March 4th, around the 5:30/6:00 p.m. time frame.

Reward levels for donations to help with the publishing of this book include:

  1. A Thank you card
  2. A 5 x 7 inch art print
  3. A 8 x 10 inch art print
  4. ‘The Journey to Ukazoo’ book
  5. Your name in one of the stories
  6. Your name in one of the border artworks
  7. Original Border artwork

Later in the week, postings prior to the Kickstarter Launch will provide more detail information on “Rewards” and access to Kickstarter via Links.

Thanks to all that have taken the time read and ‘like’ this project.

Creating ‘The Journey to Ukazoo’ Book project

‘The Journey to Ukazoo’ Book project:

Intermingled with the 9 oil paintings displayed at Ukazoo Bookstore in 2014 were 23 smaller works called ’Thumbnail Sketches’ and I definitely mean smaller. The drawings themselves are 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 inches and with mat and frame a robust 5 x 5 inches in size.

In the book they will show four to a page.

To the book project, the video portion is done and has been sent to a friend to compose the background music. Once the music track is laid in, I will then upload it to the Kickstarter worksheets and submit ‘The Journey to Ukazoo’ book project for approval to launch the Crowdfunding campaign.

Checked with new postal rates, reviewed updated quotes for digital scanning/layout costs, and received an updated quote from the publisher to finalize what the monetary goal I will be asking for to publish the book.

Creating ‘The Journey to Ukazoo’ Book

‘The Journey to Ukazoo’ Book Project:

From the ‘Snapshots and Memorabilia’ section of ‘The Journey to Ukazoo’ book project. The eight images and notations in this section had direct connections to eight of the 37 stories/art in the journey portion. This one had a direct tie to Story number Ten, ‘Spilled Milk’.

Concerning the books progress, the filming for the Kickstarter submission video was done Friday evening. Now all the different shots will need to be edited to fit within 2-minute format.

Border artwork continues to be worked on. Also completed marking out a red line route on a pen & ink U.S. map. This mapped out journey page is to be inserted on the page opposite the contents page of the book.

Finished the Kickstarter ’Profile’ worksheet page.

“The Ukazoo Art Exhibit”-Nine of Nine

Pirates in a Bathtub

“The Ukazoo Art Exhibit”

Ninth of the Nine Oil Paintings displayed

“Pirates in a Bathtub”

March, 2014

18” x 22” Oil on Board

Referring back to the text in “She Loves Me Not” (Fourth of the Nine) posting, I mentioned a painting I had shelved in January 2013, because of technical issues. During the first weeks of 2014 (a year passed), I remembered this painting and the importance I attached to having it in the upcoming art exhibit of new works, now just two months away.

I resolved the technical issue, prepped the reverse side of the board and, knowing I only had eight weeks to complete it (in the midst of getting ready for a two part art exhibit), I started this painting again.

I finished the painting (March 13) two days before the “New Works” opening on March 15th.

Along with my gratitude over the past year (The “Ukazoo Journey” started June 3rd, 2013) to Eric & Laura, Jesse & Reeghan, Lee & Deborah, Katelyn, Laura, Judy, Karen and many other relatives and friends for their help and support, I again extend a thanks to Mac for helping with the hanging of the artwork for both exhibits (February’s Ukazoo Stories and the March Ukazoo New paintings).

As I close this portion of the “Ukazoo Journey” postings and now work towards putting the “Journey” into ’Book’ form I offer another reminder of the upcoming new project to be posted Monday June 16th.

Added to the flashing lights, musical fanfare, confetti, fireworks, jugglers with flaming batons, clowns on unicycles, acrobatic alligators, a Zeppelin with scrolling text, mimes releasing balloons, and a dozen daring debutante’s being shot (one at a time, of course) from a canon screaming

“COMING, NEW PROJECT, KEEP TUNED FOR THIS EXCITING EVENT”,

just before they hit the safety net, this announcement would not be complete without the releasing of a host of white doves and a thousand Butterflies (I counted).

As always, knowing my difficulty of making such a loud announcement, I say softy, please keep following my journey, more neat art stuff is on the way.
