12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-“The Candy Store” Worksheet

18 Candy Store Worksheet

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s by Craig L Haupt #5

Title-“The Candy Store”  Second sequenced post.

Posted is the 12” x 12” pencil Worksheet to be used for the ‘Candy Store” painting.

This is where I preform a balancing act. Trying to keep the integrity of the basic shapes in the ‘doodle’ and developing a narrative around it. As I mentioned last week, the wallet and the figure, looking at it, to the left in the ’doodle’ sparked the narrative but I’m now questioning the wallet. Painted, I’m not sure the wallet will be recognizable enough. Will keep pondering this. In the worksheet you can also see the change to a more traditional lamppost. Now it’s ‘transferring to canvas’ time and deciding on colors.

The project will be posted in the following sequence, 1st Monday-the sketch/doodle or related source from whence the painting has originated.

The second Monday-the 12”x12” pencil ‘Worksheet’ showing the intended painting.

The third Monday-a ‘Progress’ post of the painting.

The fourth Monday-the ‘Finished’ painting.

Then repeat.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-“Dessert” Worksheet

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s by Craig L Haupt #3

Title-“Dessert”  Second sequenced post.

Posted is the 12” x 12” pencil Worksheet to be used for the ‘Dessert’ painting.

Once I had figured out a functional bracket for the heads to pivot, the other parts making up the neck, arms, and hands started to fall into place. After generating a solid idea on the ‘worksheet’ for a painting, I am able to benefit from sharing the drawing with a few friends and fellow artists, and in turn ponder suggestions of a few technical design details.

Now on to the transfer to canvas, color choices and additional modifications.

12 + 12, 12 x 12’s-“The Wedding”, Worksheet

6 DSC_0353

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s by Craig L Haupt

Title-“The Wedding”  Second sequenced post.

Posted is the 12” x 12” pencil worksheet to be used for the “The Wedding” painting. The previous worksheet attempts, over the years prior to this project, were all consistently toying with a horizontal rectangle layout. To convert the design to a 12” x 12” square format was a little bit of a challenge but I am fairly pleased with the adjustments. The next step is to transfer the design to a gesso prepped board.

The project will be posted in the following sequence, 1st Monday-the sketch/doodle or related source from whence the painting has originated.

The second Monday-the 12”x12” pencil worksheet showing the intended painting.

The third Monday-a progress post of the painting.

The fourth Monday-the finished painting.

Then repeat.

“12 + 12, 12 x 12’s”-The “Boots” Worksheet

2 Boots Worksheet

Project: 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s

Title-“Boots”, second sequenced post

Posted is the 12” x 12” pencil worksheet to be used for the “Boots” painting.

As each of the 24 subjects are selected, the next step is creating a full size 12” x 12” worksheet. As with all my paintings I try to keep the integrity of the initial ’Doodle’ as I develop the finished project.

Of the several worksheets in progress, there are a few that have some color added. This is one of the few.

This image, “Boots” is one of the first ‘12’ (doodles etc.) that were of my selections. Please see/scroll back to last weeks post to see a synopsis of the 12 + 12, 12 x 12’s project and the initial ‘doodle’.

The project will be posted in the following sequence:

1st Monday-the sketch/doodle or related source from whence the current painting has originated.

The second Monday-the 12”x12” pencil worksheet showing the intended painting.

The third Monday-a progress post of the painting.

The fourth Monday-the finished painting.

Then repeat.

“The House That Jack Built”-Week Four

The House That Jack Built First corner additions

“The House That Jack Built”

Week Four-First Corner with Suggestions

Herein is the first corner of the Pen & Ink worksheet with suggestions from viewers to “The House That Jack Built” project. This is a camera shot rather than a digital scan so coloring is different from the previous “1st corner” post.

Thanks to all that have participated so far.

As I mentioned in the first post (June 16) of this project, not all suggestions could be incorporated into the image. Some suggestions I did not include could still find their way into another corner of the house.

An example of this-Of animals/reptile suggestions (which, I admit, I am apprehensive because drawing/painting animals/reptiles are not my strong suit), I received a possum, a raven, a cat, and a Komodo dragon. Of those, the cat was not used, but is still retained on the list for consideration at one of the other corners.

I intend this project to result into a viable painting and as I add items, the artist part of me must also take into consideration-color, appearance of depth, balance, and overall composition. As I start to lay out the painting, the continuance of shifting, additions, and alterations of suggestions can still take place up to the final strokes of the brush, while I still work to maintain the integrity of the drawing worksheet and the project in general.

Next week I will post the second corner with areas to be considered and look forward to additional suggestions.

The continuing posting schedule for the project is, as laid out:

Today,  Monday, July 7; First corner with suggested items.

Monday, July 14; Post the second corner for suggestions of that area

Continue the sequence, and end the project with the posting of the completed painting.
