This weeks ‘Post’ is appropriate as I ponder how I will sequence the next nine weeks of Monday ‘Posts’ leading up to the September “House That Jack Built” art exhibit/opening reception at Ukazoo Bookstore.

The initial plan is to complete the “Thumbnail Sketch” posts over the next six weeks, (of which there will new ones on display at the upcoming Sept. exhibit). The three weeks (Mondays) preceding the exhibit will then revisit/highlight the “House That Jack Built” painting.

“The House That Jack Built”-Week 34

Jack, Right Segment

“The House That Jack Built”

Week 34-Jack-IV

Moving Counter-Clockwise on the center motif, this is the fourth and final segment of “Jack”.

Whereas the first segment reflected Suburbia, the second segment a rural view, the third segment a rural view with farmland, this final segment represents a lake side view.

As with the other three segments, the oil paints are wet in this section and after they dry, I will go back to brush in additional shadows, color variations in the trees, rework the campground and piers, and maybe add an extra car/truck.

For size reference, the main road measures 1 1/2” (38 mm) in length, the Sailboat at anchor , only 3/8 of an inch (9 mm).

For a refresher or for those new to “The House That Jack Built” painting, see Week 16 & 17 for a view of the full “Jack” Four segment motif before the aerial view embellishment’s.

This week marks the last “The House That Jack Built” post till August, when I will review the Painting for the September Art Exhibit.

Thanks to everyone that participated, “liked”, viewed, and ‘Shared’ the “The House That Jack Built” project. You have been a wonderful audience!!!!

Next Monday, I will begin Posting the “Thumbnail” drawings that were displayed at the “Journey to Ukazoo” Art Exhibit.

“The House That Jack Built”-Week 33

Jack, Bottom segment

“The House That Jack Built”

Week 33-Jack-III

Moving Counter-Clockwise on the center motif, this is the third segment of “Jack”.

Whereas the first segment reflected Suburbia, the second segment a rural view, the third segment extends the rural flavor with farmland.

As with the other two segments, the oil paints are wet in this section and after they dry, I will go back to brush in additional shadows, color variations in the trees, rework the silo roof, and maybe add an extra car/truck.

For size reference, the main road measures 2” (50mm) in length, the Tractors, only 1/8 of an inch (3mm).

For a refresher or for those new to “The House That Jack Built” painting, see Week 16 & 17 for a view of the full “Jack” Four segment motif before the aerial view embellishment’s .

Jack, Left segment

“The House That Jack Built”

Week 32-Jack-II

Moving Counter-Clockwise on the center motif, this is the second segment of “Jack”.

Whereas the first segment reflected Suburbia, this second segment reflects a rural view.

The oil paints are now wet in this section and after they dry, I will go back to brush in additional shadows, color variations in the trees, rework the picnic table behind the house, maybe even add an extra car/truck.

For size reference, the horizontal road measures 2 7/8” in length, the Covered bridge only 7/16 of an inch.

For a refresher or for those new to “The House That Jack Built” painting, see Week 16 & 17 for a view of the full “Jack” Four segment motif.

“The House That Jack Built”-Week 31

Jack, Top segment

“The House That Jack Built”

Week 31-Jack

First, I have secured a space and date for the display of the painting “The House That Jack Built”. I will, again, do a Solo Art Exhibit at Ukazoo Bookstore. Scheduled for the months of September/October. The tentative opening reception is Sept 12th.

It is a ways off, but the time works for completing other art images (both paintings and watercolor/pen & ink) and all the necessary framing in order to display a full Art Exhibit to complement the main subject, “The House That Jack Built”.

I have another Solo Exhibit in May, at the Laughing Pint Tavern (Highlandtown) but that is for Watercolor/Pen & Ink works only).

Back to the painting. “Jack”, the center motif, while a part of “The House That Jack Built”, is a separate painting of its own. Divided into four segments, each section will display a different aerial view. Working with the smallest of brushes and some assistance from a magnifying glass, it is best seen on-line as one section at a time and this week’s section (the top segment) reflects suburbia. For size reference, the horizontal road measures 3 3/4” in length, the vertical road 1 7/8”.

For a refresher or those new to the painting, see Week 16 & 17 for a view of the “Jack” Four segment motif.

As with the rest of the painting, once this portion of paint dries, I will be reworking colors, detail, adding shadows, any additional embellishments, etc.

“The House That Jack Built”-Week 28

Red Lips II

“The House That Jack Built”

Week 28-Holiday Intermission

For this Holiday intermission, the above Oil painting is among one of my earliest attempts in learning to work with oil paints. Entitled “Red Lips II” this 9” x 12” Oil on board was completed in June, 2011.

The continuing posting schedule for the project is, as laid out:

Today, Monday, December 29; “Holiday Intermission”.

“The House That Jack Built”-Week 26

DSC_0086

“The House That Jack Built”

Week 26-Fourth Corner of Painting

As with the posting of the first 3 corners of the painting, while there is considerable progress in this corner, there are still areas/objects that will be revisited and finalized.

Latch for the gate, mulling over a design for the kite/adding the tail, a bluebird on the birdbath, reworking the basketball net, making the mice stand out more against the ‘grey’ background, maybe a mushroom or two and a few smaller flowers in the ’planters’, etc.

The next area of concentration is “Jack” (in the center) which is a painting unto itself.

With the holidays upon us, I am going to slow down with this next area and for the next 3 weeks post past art images as a “Holiday Intermission”.

The continuing posting schedule for the project is, as laid out:

Today, Tuesday, December 16; “Fourth Corner Painting”.

“The House That Jack Built”-Week 23

Third Corner Painting

“The House That Jack Built”

Week 23-Third Corner of Painting

As with the posting of the first and second corner of the painting, while there is considerable progress in this corner, there are still areas/objects that will be revisited and finalized.

Hands and numbers still to be added to the cuckoo clock, red or white wine?, plus the “Alligator Tail” label, changing the stance of the music-box ballerina as well as adding hummingbirds and the finalizing the turtle’s shell etc.

The detail work has been slowing the process down but the painting is still moving along.

The continuing posting schedule for the project is, as laid out:

Today, Monday, December 1; “Third Corner Painting”.

Monday, December 8 and following Monday’s; Post continuing progress images of “The House That Jack Built” painting.

“The House That Jack Built”-Week 21

Second Corner Painting

“The House That Jack Built”

Week 21-Second Corner of Painting

Ah, the woes of using a 10 year old computer with the non-supported Windows XP. Last Monday morning my trusty, yet very slooooow computer finally crashed and I found myself searching for a new computer and was not able to post “The House That Jack Built”

So here I am one week later.

As with the posting of the first corner of the painting, while there is considerable progress in this corner, there are still areas/objects that will be revisited and finalized.

It has been mentioned recently that a few objects in the first corner were similar to ones found in other paintings such as the paint cans (seen in the “Pirates in a Bathtub” painting), also the marbles (in “Walk in a Park”), the bricks (a common theme in several paintings) and the popcorn box (from “The Video Game).

This new wrinkle is having some effect with how I am approaching some other areas/objects in the painting. In this second corner, the wallpaper design from the worksheet drawing has been changed to the wallpaper design I used in the “She Loves Me Not” painting.

Not sure how the other areas will develop with related objects from previous paintings but I will keep my options open.

The continuing posting schedule for the project is, as laid out:

Today, Monday, November 10; “Second Corner Painting”.

Monday, November 17 and following Monday’s; Post continuing progress images of “The House That Jack Built” painting.
